The Fell Dales Association and the Herdwick Sheep Breeders Association are delighted to support The Cavlert Trust by sponsoring a lamb.
The Fell Dales Association for the Improvement of Herdwick Sheep was established in 1864. The first show was held in 1865 at the Woolpack Inn, Eskdale. This Institution remains today and the Eskdale Show is held near the King George IV on the last Saturday of September and is the most important Herdwick show. Herdwick shepherds dream of breeding a sheep to win at Eskdale show.
In 1916 the Herdwick Sheep Breeders Association was formed for the encouragement of the breeding of Herdwick sheep, to maintain the purity, the constitution and character of the breed for survival in the harsh conditions of the high fells.
This year the Herdwick Sheep Breeders Association celebrates 100 years and the Fell Dales Association will be hosting its 148th Eskdale Show on the 24th September 2016.
